Casa Hogar Los Cabos Update, Jan. 31, 2017

A Place for Children in Need, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

I haven't posted anything for quite some time but I have continued to visit the three children's organizations in Cabo on a regular basis.  Casa Hogar Los Cabos continue to expand their facility to provide a healthy family living environment for the children who have been removed from their families.  I decided to include their recent newsletter which gives a good summary about the changes that are being made to enhance children's lives there.

Please contact Casa Hogar Los Cabos through the email listed in the following newsletter or send me an email and I would be happy to help you connect with them if you desire to visit the orphanage or contribute in some way.

New Arrivals
In our last update we shared the news of the arrival of 16 year old Susana, the first female resident of Casa Hogar. We are very, very pleased with Susana's integrating into the Casa Hogar family. She's demonstrated maturity, responsibility and an attitude of service in the home. Susana's arrival opened the doors for additional girls to live at Casa Hogar. We currently have six girls including nine year old Nazareth the younger sister of Daniel. Daniel and Nazareth are the first male-female siblings to be reunited at Casa Hogar. We are making use of the existing space as best we can to accommodate the housing of girls and a growing segment of young boys.
The experience of working in a co-ed home is valuable leading up to the construction and opening of the new facility.

More New Arrivals
In late December our numbers increased with the arrival of 6 new young siblings (three boys and three girls, between 3 and 11 years old). This beautiful young family arrived fearful for what the future would hold. Within the first few days a sense of trust was established and the children looked happy and on a path to improved nutritional health.  The children are now enrolled in tutoring and beginning to learn academic basics  such as letters, numbers and to read simple words.  They have brought a great deal of joy and laughter to the home.

Gregorio Reunited with his Mother
Nine year old Gregorio arrived late last summer. He's a strong and noble boy with a hot temper he's learned to balance. We received news that his mother had be approved to regain custody of her son and within a few days they were reunited here at Casa Hogar. This was a joyful and tearful reunion for mother and son and a reminder of the contribution Casa Hogar can make to families like these. Casa Hogar provides safe housing, meals and access to education to children and teens... sometimes just for a short time.
While Gregorio was with us just a few months he grew on our hearts and we're thrilled he has been given the opportunity to return to his mother. He will be missed but we are confident that he will be well cared for.

Tickets still available for this year's Gala Dinner Fundraiser to be held at Club 96 in Villas del Mar.  Ticket price is $200 USD.  RSVP with Angie Castillo, amj1970@hotmail.com

Water Fountain
Casa Hogar thanks California couple, Greg and Justine for their recent sponsorship of an outdoor drinking water fountain. This opportunity was shared with the couple prior to their trip to Cabo.
The funds were sent to the 501c3 charity, Friends of Casa Hogar, in Nevada and the purchase was made locally here in Mexico and shipped to Cabo. Ramon our Maintenance Man installed the fountain. Now the kids have access to cold, purified water in the outdoor play areas.

Kids of Casa Hogar Give Back
This week, the kids and teens visited a local feeding kitchen to distribute boxes of non-perishable groceries and new, wrapped toys.  The items were donated to Casa Hogar for this specific purpose.  Thank you Luis Ruiz Villa and Lupe Hernandez for your contributions to this project.  Service-focused outings are both insightful and fun for the kids of Casa Hogar.  It is also an opportunity to recognize and further value the comforts of home life in Casa Hogar made available through the generosity of our donors.
Certification

Recently, new regulations were put in place for Social Assistance Centers in Mexico.  In 2016, Casa Hogar took a number of steps to prepare our facility for certification.  There is a strong possibility Casa Hogar will be one of the first  Social Assistance Centers in the country to receive certification. The certification requirements focus on safety and hygiene features, administrative responsibilities, ecological compliance and overall well-being of the children in the home.
